Best Answer

because there is sulphuric acid in rain water, rain collects it naturally from soils in the ground and also gasses released from power plants around the world cause rain water to be slightly acidic and generally have a pH of around 6.7 depending on where you are in the world

Yes,

pH is studied under the fascinating branch of chemistry named ELECTRO CHEMISTRY.

pH is nothing but logarithm of hydrogen ion concentration in that particular solution.

For the pH range of 1 to 7 they are acidic. In this range lesser the pH stronger wil be the acid.

pH of exactly 7 is for neural solutions like water

For the pH range of 7 to 14 the solution will be base. In this range higher the pH stronger will be the base.

The pH number has a very specific meaning. It tells you the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution (hence the name, potential Hydrogen, abbreviated as pH). A pH of 3 means that there is a concentration in moles per liter of 10-3 (or in other words, one in a thousand). That is acidic, because it is a lot of hydrogen ions. Neutral water has a pH of 7 meaning 10-7 moles per liter, or one part in ten million, which is very little. Basic substances such as sodium hydroxide produce an even lower pH which could be 9, meaning 10-9 or one part in a billion.

It is a bit deceptive since the pH is a positive number, yet it refer to a negative exponent.

Distilled water has a pH between 5.6 and 7 i.e. it is slightly acidic. This is due to absorption of carbon dioxide from atmosphere to form carbonic acid

Lemon juice has a pH less than 7 because lemon juice is slightly acidic. It contains citric acid, which is acidic, and all acids have a pH value below 7.
