Why does most of China's population live in the eastern part of the nation?
Much of Western China is very mountainous and dry, and as a consequence there is little opportunity for agriculture here. Further east it becomes less mountainous and there is more rainfall. This is why the vast majority of China's population lies within 1000 miles of the country's coastline.
There's probably still two Chinas: Communist China on the mainland; and Taiwan (Nationalist China). Communist soldiers/marines/airmen/and sailors live in and serve the nation of Red China. Non-communist Chinese servicemen live in Taiwan and serve the country of Taiwan (if Nationalist China still goes by that title).

The reason why Russia's population is so unevenly distributed is because Russia tends to experience very cold weather. Especially in the Eastern side of the country. Less people live in the Eastern side then on the Western side, The European side. The Eastern side is very cold and the oceans are frozen over, where as the Western side, which is closer to Europe, is much warmer and more suitable for living in.
