I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette with the same problem. Shop mechanics have told me theirisa leak somwhere in the A/C system that cannot be detected. I have had the AC system filled with dye twice and no one can find a leak. They tell me that the leak must be minute which is why it has been undetected. My next step for this situation is to purchase an over the counter leak sealer and see if that does any good. The local auto parts store have a kit that will convert the system from R12 freon to R134a which I will have to do before I fill the system with freon.
Bad temperature sensor? Plugged or restricted radiator? Water pump not circulating coolant? Thermostat not opening? System airbound?
troubleshoot the coolant on a 1999 oldsmobile intruge
On my '99 model its under the coolant resivoir, take the metal bar loose that the resivoir is mounted to, put it aside and it should be directly underneath, hope it helps.
Why is the electric coolant fan in your 1989 Oldsmobile cutlass cierra not working?
red coolant use the dexcool
A 2000 Oldsmobile Alero with a 2.2 engine will hold approximately 13 liters of coolant. Adding coolant to your vehicle is very important.
Either your coolant is actually low or you have a coolant sensor bad.
Our 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette was doing the same thing plus we'd get low coolant indicators every 3 or 4 weeks. I went nuts almost trying to find the leaking coolant. It turned out that it was misting it's way out of the intake manifold gasket located on the top of the engine on the drivers side. You might see a small puddle of coolant on top of the block. Apparently it's a common issue with those engines.
The heater generates heat by blowing air over a small radiator type device (heater core) under your dashboard. The device runs hot coolant through it continuously. If you have a blown head gasket, your coolant is being evaporated trough the firing chambers and tailpipe. When the coolant level is low due to evaporation, there is no water to flow through the heater core. Keep in mind if you are not certain that this is a blown head gasket, these models were notorious for a defective lower manifold gasket leak that caused it to lose coolant the same way a head gasket would.
on top of the coolant resivoir
You have to put it in the overflow tank.
to cool the coolant in the engine
any dex-cool coolant but you must make sure it say's dex-cool on it.
The correct coolant is DEXCOOL it has an orange color to it. If your coolant is green the coolant has been changed. It has been found out that DEXCOOL was bad for Aluminum heads and gaskets. Best to switch to the green coolant.
My Silhouette had that same problem. I found that the coolant level was too low and not circulating through the interior heating system. Once I topped off the coolant it worked properly. I just completed repair of the original problem that caused the coolant level to go down in the first place which was a bad lower intake manifold gasket. It now works great and doesn't consume any more coolant. -Tim
The coolant level switch on a 95 Achieva has a sticking problem. If you tap the coolant tank near the sensor the light will go out
Fix the leak, and fill the coolant.
Yes, the 2000 Olds Silouette has an engine oil cooler, as well as a transmission oil cooler for the automatic tranny. The engine oil cooler is built in to the engine oil filter housing. Water/coolant enters from the engine block, circulates around the filter housing and exits through a tube to the lower intake manifold. If an engine starts getting oil in the coolant and coolant in the engine oil, this could very well be the source of the problem. An internal leak.
