I would guess that your clutch or transmission are bad. Hope that is just the clutch.
This can only happen to shift stick cars, and how this happens is that the gears grind together!
Take the parking Brake off? lolol
your clutch may not be fully engaging
Generates Power by burning fuel. This Power is then utilised to move Car at different speeds by Mechanical Gears.
Sorry to say that you probably wrecked the syncro in some of the gears if it is only in between certain gears
a car in in gears
The gears on a car provide the power to drive the wheels.
You can (somewhat), BUT DO NOT DO IT!!!! You will grind gears and ruin your car. Shifting while in motion might look cool to do, but the bill to repair your car will not look cool.
Sounds like your clutch is burnt or really out of adjustment.
The simple explaination is there are gears at the bottom of the shaft which turn other gears in the steering box which move an arm which moves a series of linkages attached to the front wheels. In a rack & pinion, instead of gears in a box there are hydraulics that move tie rods connected to the wheels
The transmission might grind on an '88 Dodge Colt because it is very low on transmission fluid. It might also grind because the gears are damaged or stripped.
syncro??
