The heater and the AC are different systems other than the blower, so they normally fail independently. The AC can fail for many reasons, high on the list are low freon (which means there's a leak) and the compressor.
i have no heat in my 1994 mercury grand marquis. what could cause the heat to stop working
because heat core was removed?
pre-heat spark plug, if this works then replace it.
Have you checked to see if the elect. fan comes on ?
If it is leaking it needs replacing. If you have no heat and the inlet heater hose is hot and the outlet is cool, it is stopped up and may need replacing, if it cannot be flushed out.
In the center of the dash. It's the unit you select options on. It controls the AC and Heat.
It is possible that the outside temperature sensor is defective. As a result the heat only works at certain electronic temperature control settings.
There are many reasons. A bad Thermostat. A bad Heater Core. A Bad Control Module. Turn off the radio and IF you have the Climate Control Module, switch from AC to heat and listen carefully to see if you can hear the ducts moving inside the dash. If you can, then the Control Module is working and your down to the other two possibilities. Good Luck.
Mercury is a good conductor of heat. Unfortunately, heat will produce vapor which is toxic.
Mercury is a poor conductor of heat.
All metals are heat conductors; mercury is not special.
If you have Climate Control, the Climate Control Unit has gone bad. This is the unit inside of the car that you use to select A/C or heat. It would have a digital readout. You can usually get one from a junk yard for about $100. A new one is over $400. It's very easy to change out.
