Why does the check engine light come on so often on a 2000 trooper?
October 03, 2008 10:31PM
I don't know about yours, but my 2000 does the same and it it usually because I didn't tighten the gas cap after filling up, and on occasion it did't go out until I changed brand.
Can a missing gas cap cause your check engine light come on?
Why does the check engine light stay on in a 1999 osmobile silhouette?
The computer turns on the check engine light in hopes that you'll check the engine codes. It means something is wrong. Use an engine diagnostic scanner to find out what it is. It's easy to do and you can usually borrow one from your local auto parts retailer, they'll often help you figure out what it all means.

2001 Pathfinder engine light problem you replaced 2 oxygen sensors then replaced 2 timing sensors the service engine light still on computer shows no code?
Wrong scanner?? If a check engine light is on, there are codes. Timing sensor? Check engine usually means a problem... Service means that scheduled service needs to be performed like oil change, or timing belt replacement. I would Check your Catalytic Converter. What often happens is the catalyst that is in the Catalytic converter Heats up and Blows out into your Muffler. This means It is not the sensor, but your converter and Muffler Need Replaced.I have just fixed two cars with this problem, and they had the same symptoms,Check engine Light.

2002 Chevy blazer flashing check engine light?
A flashing "check engine" light typically means that the computer has detected a serious problem and you should take care of it immediately. You'll need a diagnostic scanner to find out what's wrong. They are typically available at most auto parts retailers. Depending on where you go, they'll often help you plug in the scanner and figure out what it means.
How can you reset check engine light in Toyota Camry 2001 other than disconnecting battery because it is done and got back again?
If you reset the computer then the Check Engine light comes back on, it just means that the problem still exists. You need to use a code scanner, find out what's wrong, fix the problem properly THEN see if the light comes back on. Often when the problem is properly repaired the light will go off by itself and you don't need to clear the code.
What could be the problem when a 1986 Cadillac Coupe DeVille doesn't pass smog because the check engine light doesn't light if the bulb is good and lights up but not when jumped for smog check?
I found this information at http://www.smogtips.com Contrary to public belief, the Check Engine light being illuminated anytime during the smog inspection is automatically a smog failure. Vehicle manufacturers have placed the Check Engine light inside the passenger compartment to inform the driver there has been or is an engine or drive train malfunction. Very often you may not notice an engine problem, but this is only because your engine's computer is operating under pre-programmed information rather then of real-time. In other words the problem still exists but your engine learns to live with it. To avoid spending hundreds down the road, the Check Engine light should be diagnosed as soon as possible by a reputable and certified auto repair station. Our recommendation is you have a certified smog repair shop conduct a full system diagnosis. Along with the "Check Engine" light being illuminated or not, there are stored computer codes in the engine contol computer which the smog station will be able to retrieve and use for diagnosing purposes. These codes more then often will direct the smog technian in finding the fault. For more information you may want to locate a reputable smog service center in your area by simply typing in your zip code in the Smog Shop Locator search section at www.smogtips.com

How do you reset the check engine light on a 2003 c230?
I have a 2000 C230 with 93,000 and the engine light came on. Before going to a dealership and getting consumed try the following because it worked for me. I purchased Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner and put it in the gas tank when it was almost empty. I drove the car for about one week and the check engine light went off. The reason was the Fuel System cleaner works well to keep the gas clean and as a mechanic told me, it often takes 15 - 20 cycles (drives) before the engine light corrects itself. It took about 5 days for the problem to stop but hope this experience helps.

Why no shifting in 1997 gmc t6 transmission when check engine light is on?
The transmission codes and functions are often controlled by the ecm, engine control module computer. The ecm stores the fault codes from the engine and transmission. It is telling you that you have a transmission problem, the vehicle must have the ecm scanned by a certified technician, to properly diagnose the problem.

How do you reset check engine light BMW z4?
The same as on all OBD-II compliant vehicles -- use a code reader's reset function. Disconnecting the battery is another way to reset check engine lights, but I do not recommend it on BMW's, as disconnecting the battery often messes with BMW's brains and require things such as the window functions to be reset/relearned.
