Could be something like low fuel, high temp, low oil pressure, any number of things.
to look at the gauges something is terribly wrong!!
Check and possibly replace the coil.

There is no reset for a check gauges light. If the light is on, there is a problem either with the temperature oil pressure or voltage.

It's most likely the sending unit. have your mech check that for you.

Fuel pump check valve is on the pump in the tank. vacuum check valve is in the line going through the firewall.
When the computer detects a malfunction it will default into second gear only. Check the codes and that will give you an idea of causes.
If all do not work - check fuse in power distribution block under hood
