Because the farther away from the sun, the longer it will take to travel around it in an orbit. Also the planets move slower when further away due to less gravitational pull. Believe it or not, there are dwarf planet far out in the oort cloud that take thousands of Earth years for one of there years. If you do not know what the oort cloud is, it is the furthest region, where comets, some asteroids, and a few dwarf planets are found, and at the end of the oort cloud is where the sun's gravitational dominance ends. The farther a planet is from the sun, the farther it has to go on its way around.

Also . . . the way gravity works, a planet farther from the sun will move slower in its orbit.

So when you add it up . . . moving slower plus a longer way to go . . . the farther ones take longer for each revolution.

This is because the farther a planet is from the sun, the farther it has to travel to get all the way around the sun.

You can see this by drawing a dot on a piece of paper to represent the sun. Draw a circle around that dot to represent the orbit of a planet, and then a circle around that circle to represent the orbit of a farther planet. You can measure the inner circle with string and then measure the outer circle with the same string The outer circle will measure to be farther around than the inner circle.

because more away from the sun the longer time it take for the sun to orbit that planet

Why do the further planets have longer years and lower temperatures?

it is farther from the sun

Which planets have longer and shorter years than earth?

Planets closer to the sun than Earth orbit the sun in less than one year (Mercury and Venus), while planets further out from the sun than Earth take longer than a year (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune). The further out you go, the longer it takes to orbit the sun.

Which planets have a year longer than the Earth?

All the planets further away from the sun than Earth is

Why do planets further from the sun take longer to orbit?

They have a greater distance to travel

Why does it take longer for the planets farther from the sun to revolve around the sun?

They have a longer distance to travel. If you go around something, the further away from it you are, the longer the journey you have to go will be.

Would a year on the planets take longer or shorter then an earth year explain?

It depends on the planet. The planets orbiting closer to the sun than earth (Mercury and Venus) have shorter years, because they have smaller orbits, and travel faster. The planets further from the sun (Mars, Jupier, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune) have longer years because they have larger orbits and travel slower.

Do planets tend to have more earth days the further they are from the sun?

Yes, planets that are farther from the sun have larger orbits and it takes then longer to revolve around the sun. Therefore, they have more earth days.

What 3 planets take longer than 29 years to orbit the sun?

Saturn, years to orbit sun= 29.46Uranus, years to orbit sun= 84.32Neptune, years to orbit sun= 164.79

Why do the distant planets have a longer year than earth does?

For the same reason that it would take longer to run around your block than to run around your yard. The further planets have a further distance to travel to make one revolution around the sun.

Why does it takes some planets only days to revolve around the sun and other planets more than one hundred years?

It takes longer because the planets are differant distances away from the sun, the greater the difference the longer it take

Do planets get colder when there away from the sun?

Yes planets get colder when further away from the Sun.

Which of the planets take less than a year to orbit the sun?

The two closer to the sun than the earth, mercury and Venus. The further you go out from the sun, the longer it takes to orbit it.
