You could have a sticking solenoid on the starter, you could have a defective starter button, or your solenoid wires may be set up in a way that causes the current to ark between points when it's not supposed to.

Is there a common cause for a 1987 454 ltd not to crank when the start button in pressed?

Start by checking battery voltage and then use a test light to check for power at the starter when the button is pressed. If you have power at the starter with the button pressed it could be a bad starter. If no power at the starter then check into wiring and/or relays.

How do you connect a starter soleniod on a harley Davidson flh?

That depends on the year of the bike. On '65 through '88 FLH models, there are three terminals on the solenoid. The top one goes to the battery, the [small] middle on goes to the starter button and the bottom one goes to the starter. On '89 and later FLH models there are only two terminals on the unitized starter/solenoid assembly. The larger one on top goes to the battery and the small one on the right side goes to the starter relay.

How do the headlights turn on for a 1994 Yamaha 535cc Varago motorcycle?

They should come on automatically when the ignition is switched on. On my '87 xv535, the starter switch disengages the headlight in order to give full power to the starter. The starter button would stick very slightly when I released it, preventing the headlight form coming back on. (Very frustrating trying to figure this out.) Try pulling the starter button out. I never took it apart, but I assume the spring inside the switch was weak.

How do you wire in a toggle switch to start the car?

By passkey. If you are talking about a starter by-pass. It is not keyed, but a push button on & off switch. You must break the small wire at the starter relay, or solenoid, and wire the switch in series. After the car starts, you must release the push on/off switch, or you will keep turning the starter motor.
