Think of both as shades of gray. You know that the darker the surface, the less light is getting to your eyes & the brighter it is the more light that's getting to you.
What you see (from everything but lights and the sun) is reflected light.:
the sun --> object --> eye.
Thus, if an object appears bright then most of the light must have been reflected.
Likewise, if it appears dark then most of the light must have been absorbed.

If something was "completely" black it would absorb all light - but then you couldn't see it.

Likewise, white must absorb some light, or else it would be a mirror.

White light is made up primarily of reg blue and green.

White light bouncing back off the surface usually absorb one color a and reflects other colors.

In the case of black, all the colors making up white light are absorbed which makes that object appear black.

Any material ... cloth, paint, stone, liquid, soil, wood ... that absorbs all wavelengths of visible light APPEARS BLACK,
because none of the visible light that hits it bounces away into your eye ... it's all absorbed.

How is white and black different and say it with detail?

White objects reflects visual "light" where as black objects absorb it. black the color is every color so it absorbs all the light(every color in the spectrum), and white is the lack of color so it reflects all the light(every color in the spectrum) that's why you get warmer when you wear black in the sun because it absorbs the sun and white reflects it.
