Before you go out and buy a thermostat. Try this start the car with the radiatior cap off and let it run for 5 or ten minuets. If this works then it was air locked. Also check to see if the cooling fan(s) operate when the engine is hot. If not it could be a faulty cooling fan motor, cooling fan relay or cooling fan temp sensor.

If you dont have any clue what ur doin, one thing you could check is if your fan is working properly when the engine warms up. to do the just let idle at high rpm's until the temp rises then see if your fan will kick on, if it doesnt kick on then you may have a bad tempertature sensor. take it to a mechanic to get it fixed
