Are you sure it is the water pump gaskets. It could be leaking some somewhere else, like the lower intake gasket

It'll leak pretty bad without gaskets. I soak the gaskets overnight in a pan of water before installing. Seems to help.

The MOST COMMON problem with the engine is that the INTAKE GASKETS leak water into the oil pan and destroys the engine bearings if not found soon enough. Other then that, It is a very good engine. They also have alot of problems with the fuel pump going out.
It uses a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze/coolant
You will need to replace the intake gaskets to fix your problem. The HEAD GASKETS will not be your problem.

Begin by training the water from your 1999 Chevy Tahoe cooling system. Take the water pump belt off. Disconnect the water pump return hose. Unbolt the water pump. Put the new water pump on and reverse the process.
