Actually a battery that reads 12v is more than likely weak, has a bad cell, or simply in need of replacement. Car batteries are rated by their cranking amps not really the 12v. When you start your car, this puts a "load" on the battery. This is when the battery actually does it's work. So... the "load" or starter or how about the entire car is putting a strain on the battery and the battery cannot handle it. If you jump off your car and it runs ok then it's a high probability that your battery needs to be replaced. Oh, the battery should actually read around 13 to 14.5 volts. FYI--you can actually find an old battery sitting around a junk yard or behind a barn and it would probably read 12v.
The PCM can be rest on a 1998 Dodge Stratus by connecting an ODBII code reader. It reads all the information stored in the computer and can directly reset the ECM as needed.
Possibly. Charge the battery to 100% with a battery charger and then check the battery with a digital volt meter set to the 20 volt DC scale. If it reads 12.6 V it is fully charged, 12.4 it is 75%, 12.2 it is 50%, any less and the battery is dead. If it reads below 12.2 the battery is no good. If it will not take a charge at all it is defective. So all you can do is charge it and you will then know where you stand.
When it is charging the screen reads: Battery Charging. When it is fully charged it reads: Battery Charged.
That depends on the battery, and the charger. my charger has different settings for higher amps to give a faster charge or jump. A fully charged battery will show 12.6 volts. The charger will read it's maximum amperage if the battery is totally discharged. A fully charged battery will read 12.6 volts with a digital DC volt meter. If it reads 12 volts it has less than 25% charge.
THE FIRST STEP I WOULD DO IS HAVE YOUR ALTNATOR TESTED AT A LOCAL GARAGE.
That means you need a new battery.
Check the voltage at the battery with a DC volt meter. It is reads 12.6 volts is it 100% charged. 12.4 volts 75%, 12.2 volts 50%, and 12.0 volts 25% charged. Less than 12.0 volts is a dead battery. If the battery will not hold a charge with the negative cable disconnected it has a dead cell and must be replaced.
A sticker on the battery states, Free Three Year Replacement, but I read it is deceiving. There is also some small print which reads: 108 Month Limited Warranty. Customer pays pro-rated charge. Receipt required for warranty protection.
1988 , 1100 ? Anyway, when the bike is running did you run a volt meter on the battery. Should read around 14. something volts. If it reads only the battery like 12.4 volts then most likely the stator is gone. Now what kind of bike was that again?

if a battery has a bad cell it wont hold a charge, but it could also be the alternator or the plug, i had a problem with the plug and had to change it from a junk yard, but before you do that i would check the easy parts first i.e the battery, then the cables, then the tension of the alternator belt, and finally the alternator itself along with the pigtail get a volt meter and test the current while the car is running, if it reads 13 to 14 volts the alternator is working and if it reads bellow 12 it is the alternator or plug. aojedamCheck your battery, it might be worn out and not able to hold a charge from the alternator.
Voltage regulator is defective. Have it replaced or this will ruin your battery.
