All Windows versions have the same function. From the Start button, select menu/programs/accessories/system tools/system information, then click on the tools menu and select system configuration utility.
When the program opens, you'll see an advanced button on the bottom right corner. Press it.
Make sure you have disabled fast shutdown (CHECKED). Press OK/OK. If it prompts for restart, don't do it, you don't need to. Press cancel on that screen and then shutdown like you would normally.
AnswerI have found I think the answer to that question, although I haven't had the time to test it since it is on a friends computer using xp pro. but you can if you like. go to the bios and check your modem if you are on a phone line and disable the auto start feature...You may find it only restarts when a call comes in... AnswerThe bios settings turn the computer on automatically. I actually have mine set to turn on automatically in the morning before I get out of bed so it's already on when I get up.Watch what you see on your screen as you boot up the computer and do whatever it tells you to do to boot up in bios (typically by hitting the F2 or Del key). Once in bios, go to the power section. In the power setting you should see something pertaining to the modem. If you do NOT want it to power up automatically, choose the Disable option.
If you DO want to power it up automatically, it will also ask for a time (day of month, hour, minute). If you set the day as 1, for example, it will power up on the 1st of the month at the time that is set. If you set the day of the month to zero (0), it will power up every day at that time.
AnswerTry turning off the hibernation feature that can be found through control panel->display->screensaver tab->power->hibernate and then turn off the hibernation feature AnswerOpen your registry: and find the key PowerdownAfterShutdown and set it to "1" to power off the computer at shutdown, or "0" to reboot. Here is the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon If you don find it, create it(REG_SZ (String Value)) restart windows AnswerAll are very good answers. How are you shutting down your computer? Do you go to start shut down and then press ok or do you hit alt + f4? First I would check to see if my PC was set on restart in the shutdown window just before you click ok. If it is change it to say shutdown. Then I would try some of the other answers but they take a good knowledge about computers if you mess up. Hope it helps. AnswerFirst go to your start menu and then right click my computer and click properties.click on advanced tab and then under startup and recovery click on settings..
then under system failure uncheck the automatically restart....
AnswerLook in your bios for a Wake on Lan option also.First is it a Windows OS? If so are you sure that the computer is actually restarting? It could be that the computer went into "hibernation". This essentially shuts down all functions after storing your work on the hard disk and turns off. When it comes back on it resumes at where you left off. If you have Windows xp you can go to control panel> power options> and there is a hiberate tab. See if the "enable hibernation" box is checked. If it is, you can uncheck it and it won't hibernate anymore.
There are at least two possibilities. First one is you have some problems with installed software. To fix it you need to spend some time with registry and figure out which software causes fatal errors. There are a lot software which you can use (jv16 is my favorite). It's better to work in the "Safe mode" while you are editing the registry.
Second one you have some problems with hardware which is even trickier. It looks like you have problems with the CPU temperature or you have some bad sectors on the hard drive. You can find free utilities in internet which can help to check both. All hard drive producers have special software which allows detect and fix bad sectors. Also you can find special free software for CPU temperature control (you need to check the BIOS settings to make sure when the system restarts should in the PC health menu or something like that).
Usually, it shouldn't restart automatically, ever...
Unless, Windows was updating something, and sometimes, when the updating process is finished, some updates require a restart. Sometimes, it will ask you if you want to restart or not; usually it's either 'restart now' or 'later' (something like that). However, sometimes it will also put a time on it. ie 5 min. When the time ends, it will automatically restart.
it forgets what u last did! and there is probaly something wrong with your computer....
Computers don't restart after shutting down. You probably have some setting on your OS which give the computer the command to always reboot. Change that setting.

Auto backup is a process by which documents and files are being automatically backed up in a computer.
Sometimes a computer needs to restart because of programs it needs to upload, or updates to update. In some cases it restores because it is being over-heated you can put a fan near a place were its hot to cool it down so it doesn't shut down.
Booting up ..! A boot process is a step by step process with which a computer loads the operating system.

Being a computer novice, and not being a professional, this answer will be purely from a laymans standpoint. I have a Microsoft operating system and use Norton-Symantec Internet Security Suite for my security. I have noticed what appears to me that when I get a Microsoft Update that parts of my Norton softeware have been turned OFF. I have to assume that Bill Gates and his crew are responsible for this. If my suspicions are correct, it is possible that this is how your firewall is being turned off.
