Another advantage of the double closed compared to the open system is that in the double system the blood is always kept at a high pressure. This is an advantage as the high pressure of the blood means that the blood can travel faster around the body and deliever more oxygen to the body's cells.

Why is it important your body has a circulatory system?
If we were small enough we could absorb all our oxygen and nutrients by diffusion. But because we're as big as we are it would take too long for substances to diffuse to everywhere they need to go. So we have to have a more efficient means of getting oxygen and nutrients to where they're needed and that is the circulatory system.
