Why is Earth's surface warmer in the Northern Hemisphere when it is summer?

The earth goes around the sun, and it takes a year to do that, but the earth doesn't change it's axis. It stays tilted a bit, and rotates daily, but not around the sun in one day. So in the year that it is going around the sun, the equator is in the same place, but for 1/2 of the year the Southern Hemisphere is closer to the sun, and the northern hemisphere is further away.
Then in the next 6 months it is the opposite because the earth is on the opposite side of the sun, so then the Southern Hemisphere is further away, and they northern is closer. So this is how the seasons change.
