Humans naturally crave salt to some extent, because we need a certain amount of it to survive.

So, if you're craving it, in means your salt levels are probably low.

By the same token, a craving for salt can point to some other nutrient deficiency.

The cause may be a taste disorder (dysgeusia), an illusion, drunkenness, a symptom of hysteria, etc.

OR maybe you are eating typical American processed foods -- most are high in salt.
