The men who discovered Greenland did not want anyone coming over and colonizing the continent, so they switched the names in hopes that their Greenland would not be overrun by people.
because of its latitude on the earths surface,,,,, its is in the Tundra climate (in the arctic circle)
Primarily, Iceland is not actually green as it does have many areas with ice such as the volcano of Eyjafjallajokull. However, when the Vikings settled in Iceland, they all thought it was too cold, so some of the group went in their longships to seek new land to live on. They discovered a huge landmass that was covered in ice. Therefore to attract other people to live here, they had to first convince everyone that it was not as cold as Iceland, so they achieved this by calling the landmass Greenland.
Greenland is called Greenland because centuries ago the vikings named that land Greenland even though it was mostly ice and wind so they could trick their enemies into thinking it was green. And its the same thing for Iceland.
No. There is one little confusing thing though. Iceland is green and warm, while Greenland is covered in snow and ice.
Water in it's gaseous state and carbon dioxide were two gases that caused increased melting in Greenland.
Most of Greenland is covered by a continental glacier, so it is permanently under ice. The remainder of Greenland is only snow-covered during parts of the year.
The total area of Greenland is 2,166,086 km2 (836,330 sq mi), of which the Greenland ice sheet covers 1,755,637 km2 (677,855 sq mi), which works out at roughly 81% of the area of Greenland.
Greenland is an island and Antarctica is a continent, both covered with ice sheets.
Despite Greenland's name, Greenland is actually covered by ice and snow. However, there are parts of Greenland that are quite green.
because when it has no ice its all green
Green is a misnomer in the name. There is a lot of ice and cold in Greenland. Actually, Iceland should be called Greenland and Greenland should be called Iceland.
he named it Greenland because it is a very big place the ice is far from the coast and the land between the ice is very green
See etymology at the Wikipedia link below.

The Greenland ice sheet covers about 80 percent of Greenland! It's the second-biggest ice sheet in the world, after Antarctica
greenland ice
The Greenland ice sheet covers 80 percent of the total area of land in Greenland. It is the largest island in the world.
Although the coasts of the island are very green in the summer when they are ice-free, it may have been part of the colonization efforts by its discoverer, Erik the Red (Danish: Erik den Røde). After being exiled from Iceland, he returned there in 982, and called the new island Greenland, to attract potential settlers.
Water in it's gaseous state and carbon dioxide were two gases that caused increased melting in Greenland.
