Unfortunately, many organizations are controlled by the financial world and somehow those people seem to think that everyone should be using Microsoft products.

The reality is, most varieties of UNIX provide more flexibility and power for real-time applications, as well as low level controls.

Microsoft Windows is the most popular operating system for several reasons:

a. Its progenitor (MS-DOS) was offered with every IBM PC back when IBM produced

personal computers, making MS-DOS the defacto OS for business and home use.

b. As IBM left the PC business and IBM-compatible PCs became the market standard,

business (and home PC) wanted their software (in which they'd invested training

time and also many hardware dollars) to continue to run - making an OS like

MS Windows look like a good investment, and so PC manufacturers began to

pre-install the latest version of MS Windows with every PC sold - a practice which

continues to this day.
