Why is Moses important in the history of the Israelites?

Moses was the leader of the nation of Israel charged with bringing them out of Egypt.

It is also considered likely that he wrote most of the first five books of The Bible, known as the Pentateuch. These are both historical and religious in that they contain God's revelation about his will to His chosen people the Jews and also to all mankind.

As both a leader and an author he is thus a pivotal figure both political and religious. In regard to the latter, which is probably his most important role, it is said of him in the epitaph, probably added by Joshua at the end of Deuteronomy:

10And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, 11In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,12And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.

Moses is important in Jewish belief because the Bible says that he led the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt, and that he gave the people the Ten Commandments.

Moses would only be important in Israelite history if indeed the Exodus from Egypt really occurred. However, over 90 per cent of scholars are reported to say that the biblical Exodus from Egypt never really occurred. On this view, Moses probably never existed and certainly did not have an important place in Israelite history.

Are you serious? Moses is very important. By the spirit of God, he wrote the first 5 books of the Bible. Without Moses, the Israelites would have never gone out of Egypt. The Israelites would have never seen the greatness of the Almighty God through the miracles done by Moses. Read Exodus and you'll find out why.

Moses was God's tool to release the Israelites from Egyptian captivity. Moses was an amazing man of faith and was referred to as such in the rest of the Bible.

At God's command, he led the Israelites (Hebrews) out of Egyptian slavery (Exodus ch.12). Later, he conveyed God's Torah to them (Exodus 24:12; see also Exodus ch.19).
