Its not why DID people use witchcraft, its why DO people use witchcraft. witchcraft is still a highly popular religion, though, many witchs do not notifiy others of their spirituality due to the negitivity of the community.

now, witchcraft isn't all spells. but it can be.

witchcraft/wicca, is also about honouring the goddess and the god (yes, witches do have a god) this is where, in the past few centuries, it has been peceived by many outside the religion, as Satan worshipers, that is because, the wiccan god, has horns like a goat. he is also called 'The Green Man'.

People used witchcraft, and still do, because it is a religion, like it or not. its about believing, dedication, SELF RESPECT, a connection and loving of nature... yea yea... witches are real greenies. HA! THATS BECAUSE WE RESPECT THE EARTH.

Witchcraft and satanism are completely different things.

also. Traditional witches don't believe in the devil.

The reason for witches to yearn for Witchcraft knowledge is basically the Self ownership and Self responsibility. Witches believe that they are the one and only person responsible for their actions and results of their actions. Witches can make what they want to happen and know what is to happen in future.

Witchcraft in its purest form is generally an integral part of many pagan spiritual paths. Asking why it is practiced would be similar to asking why communion is practiced.
