### How many pints in a gal?

Equal to 8 pints. The Imperial gallon was defined in the act of
1824 as the volume of 10lb of water at 62°F. Before this, the
gallon was redefined over the years, which is why we have 8 of our
gallons to one of our bushels, but the Americans have 9.309177 of
their gallons (or 7.751512 of ours) to one of their bushels. To get
around this, they have a dry gallon and a liquid gallon, which are
different. To summarise:
Imperial gallon 277.4192 cubic inches
US dry gallon 268.8025 cubic inches
US liquid gallon 231 cubic inches.

### How many inches for gallon?

Gallons is a liquid measurement and inches is a solid
measurement so there is no such thing as inches in a gallon but
there is square inches in a gallon which is completely
diffrent.
Cubic inches measure volume so a gallon would be measured in
cubic inches rather than square inches. 231 cubic inches is equal
to one gallon.
Answer2
The first para in the above answer is confusing because it says
"there is square inches in a gallon". Unfortunately, there are NOT
square inches in a gallon - they are CUBIC inches (a measure of
volume, not area)

### If a 55 gallon barrel is 34.5 inches high and 23 inches in diameter how can I convert the measurement of the liquid measured in inches left in the barrel to quarts of liquid left in the barrel?

The question, as stated, cannot be answered sensibly. A gallon
is a measure of volume, with dimensions [L3]. An inch is a measure
of distance, with dimensions [L]. The two measure different things
and elementary dimensional analysis teaches that you cannot convert
between measures with different dimensions such as these without
additional information.

### Why is a US gallon different to a UK gallon?

1 UK gallon is approximately equal to 1.2 US gallon. Note that
it is 1.2 US Liquid gallon. US gallon is further divided into US
liquid gallon and US dry gallon (historically used to measure
volume of grains). Because of so many different definitions and
difficult conversions, most of the countries have adopted the SI
units.

### If you have a 5 gallon jug and a seven gallon jug no marks on either one the goal is to fill the 7 gallon jug with 6 gallons of water how is this accomplished?

Fill the 5-gallon jug with liquid. Pour the liquid into the
7-gallon jug. Fill the 5-gallon jug with liquid and top-off the
7-gallon jug with the liquid of the 5-gallon. There will one gallon
of liquid left in the 5-gallon jug. Empty the contents of the
7-gallon jug and fill it with the one gallon left in the 5-gallon
jug. Fill the 5-gallon jug with liquid and pour it into the
7-gallon jug that contains one gallon of liquid. Do the math, one
gallon plus five gallons equals six gallons of liquid.
