Because it can clog your arteries and increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. That's the ugly truth. When there is too much bad cholesterol in your body, it can slowly build up in the walls of the arteries in your heart and brain.

It is referred to as bad cholesterol because it can cause build up in the arteries, causing serious heart issues. It should be controlled either by a high quality fish oil or a statin drug. High cholesterol is truly "bad".

Bad cholesterol can clog up your arteries with plaque. This can sometime lead to blood not getting to the heart and brain which can lead to an heart attack or stroke. You can be born with high cholesterol and that is why it's important to have your cholesterol checked. I have cut back on saturated fat found in

meats, cheese and butter, and since egg is very high in cholestrol, I have cut it from my diet. My cholesterol has fallen into the normal range without the use of drugs. There are good cholestrol too called HDL and trilycerides. The bad cholestrol is called LDL. A cholestrol level of 200mg/dL and under is desireable. A number of 240mg/dL and over is considered high. If your cholestrol is 200mg/dL, you want your good cholestrol to be at least 50mg/dL, that's a ratio of 4.1

  1. It aids in the production of sex hormones.
  2. It's a building block for human tissues.
  3. It assists in bile production in the liver.
