In Europe (except UK) they have coke light rather than diet coke.
The sweetener blend used for Coke Light is formulated for each country based on consumer preference.
Also the water used can sometimes affect the taste.

∙ 13y agoBecause high fructose corn syrup is banned in Europe and the United Kingdom. It is processed from corn and is not very good for you, however the U.S. government pays corn farmers to grow corn so that they can produce a ton of it and use it as a very cheap substitute for sugar. This is also the reason you won't see free refills anywhere in Europe (except maybe Nando's in the UK, not sure why).
From the label on a container: "Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine." The carbonated water is the solvent. All the rest is solute (though there may be a bit of water in some of it). More specific information isn't generally available. It's proprietary. They don't give out the formula. But they have a web site and a contact page. And a link to click on is provided. Does it get any better? Nope!sugar
Actually, if "sugar" refers to table sugar like we are used to, neither has any. High fructose corn syrup is used to sweeten soft drinks now and both list it at the top of their ingredients on their labels. On both brands, it is listed second after carbonated water. Pepsi has more HFC at 41 grams to Coke's 39 grams.
Mexican coke is made with real Cane Sugar instead of Fructose Corn Syrup that is used to make Coke-a-Cola products made and distributed in the United States.
Because a regular coke is more dense and has more sugar. A diet coke has more sugar
