Its not. It depends where you live, I live where there is no beach, in a city and court volleyball is very popular in some high schools. There is a social beach tournament played indoors on sand, but its not popular at all. But somewhere on along beach, beach volleyball is very popular. It takes alot more skill to play proper court volleyball, beach volleyball is more fun and social.

What is beach volleyball?

Beach volleyball is like indoor volleyball but with sand. Both sports are along the same lines like you serve the ball, pass the ball, hit the ball and set the ball. Outdoor sand/beach is most commonly played. Most club beach volleyball teams consist of you and one other player or partner. So you play two on two. The rules are mostly the same for indoor and outdoor volleyball some examples are you cant cross over the service line before making contact with the ball, you can't touch the net, if the ball hits outside the court with no other contact from the other team then it's out. Some difference between the two are you can't open hand tip, you can double on first contact if it a hard hit, if you set the ball it can only make 1full rotation or else its the other teams point and considered a double (some refs will be more or less lenient) also in some tournaments the refs are other players in your age group. Beach volleyball most people were swim suit bottoms and a sports bra or bikini instead of a jersey, spandex. Also you DO NOT where shoes or knee pads. Beach volleyball is also A LOT more lenient on jewelry like you can where anything really. Outdoor Beach volleyball is a lot of fun but also very challenging, with the hot practices + walking in sand + more court to cover since it just two of you, it is only for some people. But It is very fun and you should totally play hope this was helpful(:

What are the positions for beach volley ball?

Scoring: Beach volleyball are best played in three sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points. The final tie breaker is played to 15 points. A team must win a set by two points. There is no ceiling, so a set continues until the two point advantage is made. Right Side or Left Side: Two players evenly split the court. Left-handers usually perfer the right side, and right-handers vice versa. Play Front Court or Back Court: The better defender keeps to the back of the court to make digs, while the player in the front of the court spikes the ball and defends the front court. Playing the Game- Most players have what they call a "bag of tricks". They know if they go out there and wear themselves out in the beginning they have no chance in winning. That's why their are a variety of shots and defense moves, so that they can maintain their energy the whole time.

If a player gets a red card does his team field one less player?

Indoor volleyball... Yes. The player who received the red card must sit in one of the penalty chairs behind the scorer and will take no further part in the set and does not incur a point penalty. The team will have to make a substitution to replace this player on court and if there is no one available then the team is declared incomplete and forfeits the set. Beach volleyball... No. A red card is only a point penalty so the player remains on the court, and there are no substitutions in beach.

When did volleyball come into the olympic games?

Indoor Volleyball - 1964Beach Volleyball - 1992 as a demonstration sport, 1996 as a medal sport. The game of Volleyball was invented in the year 1895 by a YMCA (Young Men Christian Association) physical education director called William G Morgan. The exact date is said to be the 9th of February that year. The game was created in the city of Holyoke, Massachusetts. What is noteworthy is that just four years ago another instructor of the YMCA founded the game of basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts; not far from here. The game was later called volleyball after an observer at an exhibition match remarked on the peculiar volley nature of this game. It was in 1896 and the observer was one Alfred Halstead. It had become a game that was supposed to be less violent and rough than basketball. It was adopted by Canada, the first other country after the United States, by the 1900s. Later in 1924 it became part of the Olympics
