The first thing you want to do is fill up the car with gas. If it stops doing that, there was your problem - and that happens a LOT. If that didn't help, try grounding the fuel sender that's in the tank. Then check the wiring between the tank and gas gauge.

Sell the car for less than you think it is worth and get rid of the problem.
