Why is glass used in architecture and interior design?

Glass allows light in and prevents air and water so buildings can be naturally lit, and have views to the outside but still provide shelter. Glass however does not usually shelter from heat or cold.
glass gives a aesthical look and there is no such type of rusting impediment.it gives a serene feel.
