Phlebitis is an 'itis' which means that inflammation is present. Since massage outs demands on the body systems, particularly the liver, massage would over load the body systems. Also phlebitis is inflammation of veins in the body and they may contain blood clots. Massage me dislodge the blood clots and caues cerious problems from stroke to heart heart attack.

∙ 16y agoHigh blood pressure is not a contraindication unless it is not under control by medication. One reason why it may be a contraindication is that if a person with high blood pressure gets a massage an experiences anxiety, their blood pressure could rise. If someone is borderline high blood pressure 140/90, they are not contraindicated and would benefit from a relaxation oriented massage because it will tend to normalize their blood pressure.

∙ 15y agoBlood pressure irregularities can be contraindications for massage - but not totally contraindicated - a client presenting with either high or low blood pressure should get permission from their doctor if possible or sign a disclaimer if this is not possible. Low blood pressure may give rise to, or disguise more serious conditions. High blood pressure sufferers have an increased susceptibility to blood clotting and this could cause serious problems and like the sufferers of low blood pressure care should be taken to check that they get up slowly so they do not experience any dizziness when they get up off the massage table at the end of the session.

For example a 30 minute walk moves as much blood as a 30 minute massage, massage does this without stressing the heart which is usually excellent for your body. However, if you had a clot in your circulatory system, it is possible for massage to dislodge or loosen the clot and move it somewhere else in the body. It could be very dangerous if the clog is dislodged and carried to the heart or brain.
