It symbolizes heaven, eternal life and paradise. While sprinkling holy water on the casket, the catholic priest says: "May God refreshen your soul with heavenly dew."
Water is a symbol of holiness, and represents baptism
The bible does mention holy water once in the scriptures. It is found in the King James Version Bible in Numbers chapter 5 and verse 17. "And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:"
Put holy water on it
Holy water is usually kept in the Baptismal font, also, there is usually a large urn in most Catholic Churches to hold holy water for the people who want some. They put it in holy water bottles that they bring in with them. The Church has small fonts (small dishes attached to the wall) by each door for people to bless themselves as they come into the Church. For the beginning of Mass, or any other time that the priest wishes to bless everyone with holy water, he will have a handled bucket into which he puts the aspergill (looks like a hollow microphone) that he uses to sprinkle the people with holy water.
The Priest will put a Holy Water to our forhead.

It is a Chalice
The holy water and candles would be for the priest when he came to perform the Last Rites (confession Holy Communion, Apostolic Blessing, Anointing (Unction). Salt is usually used during an exorcism, and I have no earthly idea what the nails would be for, certainly no Catholic ritual.
Its something to do with the pureness of the water and the belief people put in it
Sacred chrism Is perfumed oil blessed by the bishop. The celebrant anoints the newly baptized on the crown of the head with sacred chrism. This anointing is a sign of the gift Of the Holy Spirit.
The priest will bring communion and/or oils; you should have a clean area avaialble, with table and small white cloth. Offer the priest a glass of water when he arrives or beverage after communion. You do not need anything else. They sell sick call kits for people which include a crucifix and candles, you may put these out on a white cloth for the priest to use when he is giving Holy Communion, but it is not necessary.
The Baptism font is what holds the water for baptisms in the Catholic Church.
