Humans, who are not diabetic, make the insulin they need within their own bodies.

What disease is treated by genetically engineered human insulin?

Type I diabetes that cannot be successfully treated with animal insulin.

What animal gives us insulin?

Some diabetics claim that they get better control using insulin from cow or pig. The evidence is poor on support of the claim. Only one company in the world is licence to make insulin from animal extrict. Today 99% is made from 'human' DNA.

How was insulin produced before genetically modified?

the bacterial insulin is just human like insulin that cause no allergic reaction but earlier the insulin used was animal insulin

Genetically engineered insulin advantages and disadvantages?

Zade Lunat *the advantage is that it is the only viable source of clinical quantities of human insulin. Before it's FDA approval for Genetech patients would inject animal insulin purified from animal tissue. Disadvantages? From the frame of mind that is the ONLY source of externally provided human insulin it is hard to attribute disadvantages.

Pros and cons of gm insulin?

gm insulin is specific to humans unlike animal insulin which is specific to that animal

What is the process of making human insulin with bacteria?

Human insulin is made with bacteria through recombinant DNA. It introduces a copy of human insulin DNA to a host cell, which then produces human insulin.

Is the insulin made by E.coli better or worse than insulin made by human?

The insulin that we engineer bacteria to make (E.colidoes not naturally make insulin) is identical to human insulin.

What is the difference between human and analog insulin?

Human Insulin, is a replica of the insulin found naturally in human beings. These are synthetically prepared. An insulin analogue however is an altered form of this human insulin, by addition, subsitution or substraction of one/or more amino acid chain/s. This is done to make insulin more safe and effective for human use.

What part of the animal is used to make insulin?

The pancreas of the animal is used to make insulin.

Is there pig pee in the insulin?

No . . . human insulin is made from pig insulin, quite often.

How is commercial insulin prepared?

Standard insulin is an extract taken from the pancreases of cattle from slaughterhouses. However not all diabetics respond well to animal insulin. Genetic engineering has provided a way to manufacture actual human insulin for diabetics that can't use animal insulin. The human insulin gene (edited to remove the introns, which bacteria can't process correctly) is inserted into the chromosome of a bacterium and the bacteria are allowed to grow. Once they have a pure culture of the modified bacteria they are grown in large fermentation tanks. The bacteria produce and secrete the human insulin into the liquid in the tank and as this liquid is circulated to replenish the food for the growing bacteria the insulin is extracted. Some additional processing is needed to perform some steps that the bacteria can't do, the end result is true human insulin.
