Usually, because the sea has just been from winter, it stays cold for a while into spring and as soon as summer comes then the sea usually starts to warm up again but becasue the sea is quite big it takes longer to get warmer (about from spring or summer) which is why is only ends up warmer at the end of summer because it has had longer to heat up

As water evaporates, it cools the air around it. Adding water vapor to the air lowers the temperature of the air. The larger the body of water, the more cooling takes place.

Because there are more trees around to shade things. At the beach there are not very many trees or palm trees all over the sand. :)

Why its is cooler by the lake or any body of water in the summer and warmer by the lake in the winter?

Water can contain heat or the lack of it better than the air and ground around it. During winter the water will be heated up by the sun, even though it is cold out, and during the summer the water will retain the cold that it has been exposed to overnight.

How would the summer temperatuers of a city near an ocean likely compare with summer temperature of an inland city at the same latitude?

That region is most likely cooler than the interior in the Summer, and warmer than theinterior in the Winter. Locations near the coast may very well have the same averagetemperature as inland locations have, but their extremes are less extreme. The whole thing is also complicated by the fact that inland locations are likely to be athigher elevations than the ocean coast is, which also has an effect on the climate.

How do the prevailing westerly winds and the North-Atlantic drift affect the weather in Western Europe?

Europe is warmer than it should be given its latitude because of the N.A.D. The North Atlantic Drift is an underwater current that forces warm water from the Carribean, east all the way to the Western end of Eurasia. In addition, the N.A.D. brings with it prevailing winds which lose most of its heat when they cross Portugual. Another example of currency is Lake Michigan. Since water changes temperature slowly, the closer you are to the lake in the summer the cooler it is and the closer you are to the lake in the winter the warmer it is. Therefore, Europe is warmer than it should be due to climactic changes brought about by the N.A.D.
