If it was raining, lightning is not likely to strike at all. However, if you were in a thunderstorm there is a good chance of the tree being struck; from that, there is a slight possibility that you could get hit by it as well.

Of course it is.
When the lightning hits the tree, the electricity travels through the whole tree, and when the tree is burned down, then were else does the electricity have to go then to strike you. So no matter how dumb it may sound or how confident you are, NEVER ATTEMPT THIS!
(Side affects if you choose to do otherwise may include serious consequences including death.)

∙ 14y agoNo because lightning strikes on higher objects and metal (which is why you should stay low and find shelter) No, especially a lone tree. Lightening tends to strike the tallest object so a solitary tree is a prime target. If a tree is struck by the lightening the water inside the tree is instantly vapourised and the pressure that this creates can burst the trunk or branches apart sending splinter flying in all directions at high velocity.

Lighting usually strikes tall object such as trees.
A person standing under a tree when it is hit by lightning can easily be killed.

12br- No!! This is not true at al!! DO NOT EVER STAND UNDER A TREE DURING A STORM. The safest place to be when your outside in bad weather is in a ditch or in an area with no debris that could be flung around.

∙ 10y agoit is more likely to struck worse by lightning under a small tree as it will be closer to your head their for it will hit you faster and their is no excape as i know because my uncle has died from standing under a tree when it there was thunder and lightning storms and got sruck and died

Because lightening always "aims" for the highest point and trees usually fall into this catagory. This is why buildings have lightening rods. They attract the lightening and transport the charge down their length to run safely into the earth. However, if you are surrounded by taller objects (bigger trees or buildings forinstance) you can run under a tree to simply get out of the rain...

Is it safe to put horses out while it's raining?
Yes it is OK for horses to be out in the pasture while it is raining. There should however be some sort of covering for them to stand under in case of heavy wind and downpours. It is a little different in the winter when horses should be protected with waterproof rugs .
