The tourist suggested "breakfast at Tiffany's" because it was the only place in New York that he knew. Tiffany's, if you didn't know, is a high-class/super-rich jewelry store. The phrase "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was just what I explained and was an inside joke for Capote and his friends.
