Way back, when the human race was young and still used loincloths, people didn't have the advanced technology to show them how the world worked. So, they made up stories to explain the unexplained. Personally, I do not include anything Biblical in the made-up stories category.

There are tons of reasons for studying mythology. Some people are doing it for fun, others for projects or things of other importance. There is something very simple and basic about mythology that entrances even little kids, because they can understand it. Of course, the most common reason for studying mythology that I hear about is that teachers force you to. I research and study Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythology because I am fascinated by the many different versions and events that happen in various myths.

Mythology's purpose was to show that there is reason behind all the natrual disasters and bad luck, etc. Science was not relly too important you could sy while the Gods and Goddess's had people to think that he did that or we angered her somehow and that is why this is happeing.

Studying the mythology language of a culture tells us a lot about that culture. By looking at the powers and strengths of the most popular myths and legends and Gods tells you what morals, strengths and rituals are most important to that culture.

The purpose of mythology was to explain the unexplainable phenomena that occured. You don't hear of it much now, because we have science to answer all of the questions.

Myths are not real. Myths are just stories often told by parents to children to make them feel better about themselves, instill fear or happiness. (i.e toothfairy, boogyman, santaclause, etc)
