The importance of a person's heritage can be decided by that person alone. If your heritage means nothing to you, does not help define who you are, give you a sense of purpose, or help you understand the world better, then giving up your heritage is not so important. If it does any of those things, it is worth preserving.

it is important to know your family root b/c it show what u r and what is your family history ,culture ,& ancestors like. it show what religion u r in.

It is not particularly important to know your family heritage, but knowing it - or the process of learning it- can give you a sense of belonging. This can improve your self-image.
