There does not appear to be anything grammatically incorrect with the sentence, "The drum maker heats the drum slightly before he puts it in the ocean."

You might substitute the word "places" for "puts" but that would be pedantic since the first definition of the word "put" is "to place". Perhaps the drum maker does not heat the drum and the sentence is untrue, but grammatically correct. Would like to hear from others on this one.
