There is a need for a wholesale evaluation and rehash of children"s tv and Cartoons in particular- unlike comic books, which do have a code ( Comics code authority) there ae cartoons on TV and related mediums which deal with the most bizarre, frightening and untoward topics that almost certainly would Naturally never come up on the playground,if you know what I mean. a number of cartoons dating from the sixties used kid characters and plausible situations- not monsters or super-heroes here but situations that probably could happen in everday- but not normal life- plots dealt with the aftermaths of Jaywalking- a child is lying in the street between life and death and the Mother is hysterical. sometimes police officers were shown in a negative light- I do not mean comedy like Car 54 but heavy stuff where burly cops are holding back crowds hanging around, say a traffic accident like that described before- for some reason Abandonment- the logical corrolarry of Separation Angst was a not- unknown plot device in some television-but not comic book- cartoons a cleanup is long overdue. then there are cartoons which make like of such things as Homosexuality (Top Cat), handicaps such as blindness (Magoo) , and even such things as Baby Huey, the demented Duck ( Harvey comics group) who usec to chant, I"m a Mental retard! in practically every episode, and there are the violent or fright toons as well.

Quantity not quality is the answer. We are a pleasure seeking culture. We want fast, now service to be entertained, fed, waterd, clothed ect. As children we do not really understand what badly animated is until we expierence better and learn there is a difference. Just like eating those greens. We are told they are good for us but for the life of us we can not stand the taste. It's the worste thing on the plante until we learn otherwise.

They don't. It's a common stereotype that all cartoons are for kids.

Many cartoons are created for mature audiences, like South Park and Elfen Lied.
