Very very little gum doesn't have Aspartame in it. Mainly bubble gum has no Aspartame but I found some aspartame in Hubba Bubba.

Although you might not find an answer anywhere, my educated guess is that Aspartame manufacturers are able to produce aspartame cheaply and able to sell it within the food industry cheaper than healthy sweeteners like stevia, xylitol, etc. and possibly cheaper than sugar, honey or syrup.

There are probably powerful people promoting the sales of this poison as well causing it to be in 99% of all Chewing Gum. People don't want sugar to rot their teeth all day which is a smart choice but is swallowing aspartame any better? Try finding gum at health food stores or make your own. I am looking for a recipe right now since healthy gum is so expensive.

P.S. The original answer below wasn't really an answer but I don't like erasing other people's responses.

Most gum's that I have now contain aspartame which turns out to be poison! It is a artificial, low calorie sweetner that is being used far more than you can imagine. My suggestion: consider safer alternatives and look for aspartame-free gum!

It is added to gum because it says sweeter much longer than sugar will, so for that "longlasting flavor and sweetness", aspartame is added.
