It is perfectly normal for cats to sleep a lot. In nature they only go out to hunt, and nap the rest of the time to conserve energy.

First of all they LOVE to sleep, well at least my cat did. They might not play that much anymore depending on wich kind of cat.
You may not be playing with your cat enough so he still has loads of energy so when you're trying to go to sleep he/she may be begging you to play with him/her! Cats are nocturnal so you could let him hunt outside at night!
No cat is a pet, it will sleep where it pleases the cat. It has no regard for the person who feeds it, only for a roll in the alley and for the litters that result.
