Prayer draws the soul of the one praying closer to God, the Creator. Obligatory prayer guarentees the process.

The daily obligatory prayers (there are three, the Bahai believer is free to choose any one of them on a given day) are one of the daily spiritual disciplines that are part of the Bahai life. They are 'obligatory' in a purely personal sense: no-one checks who has said their prayer or how. Other daily obligations are to call yourself to account each day (ethical self-criticism) and to study the scriptures each day. Together, the daily obligations are an important part of transforming one's character and developing spiritual capacities.
