Water molecules are polar, which means the oxygen side of the molecule is more negative, and the hydrogen side is more positive. Lipids are non polar, which means that one side is not more negative than the other. This is why no nonpolar substances dissolve in polar liquids

The solvent is water; lipids, sugars, proteins etc. are the solutes.

What is the generalization of solubility of lipids?

Lipids are soluble in nonpolar or organic solvents.

Water vapor would be the solvent. Water alone is a good solvent.

What is the biological exception to water being the universal solvent?

Many polar substances can dissolve in water. Lipids cannot dissolve in water because lipids are nonpolar, so there is no attraction between them. Water can stick to itself and other things. Water also expands when it freezes.

What is universal solvent?

A universal solvent doesn't exist; water is a good solvent for many materials.

What group of organic molecules does not dissolve in water?

A substance that doesn't mix with water is a hydrophobic substance. Common examples would be cooking oil, gasoline, petroleum jelly and wax.

How water is known as universal solvent eventhough it doesnt dissolve all substances?

Water is a very good and known solvent but it is not an universal solvent. An universal solvent doesn't exist and is absolutely impossible to obtain an universal solvent.
