Palm Sunday signifies the day when Jesus of Nazareth entered Jerusalem on a donkey and was received well. This begins what is called the "passion week" which are all the events leading up to Jesus' death and resurrection.

Palm Sunday has a biblical meaning for Christians.(as in believers of Jesus Christ, not Presbyterians) When Jesus entering a town, he told his disciples to find him a donkey, and if anyone asks them, tell them that the Lord needs it. When he was entering the town on the donkey, people of the town took palm leaves and laid them in front of the donkey as a sign of welcome. These palm leaves became holy symbols because even during this event, Jesus knew his death was near, and yet he blessed the people who were going to condemn him.

Every Sunday is important to Catholics, Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday (they were originally two separate Sundays before the reform of Vatican II) celebrates the triumphant entry of Our Blessed Lord into Jerusalem, and the entire Passion is read at the Gospel. Plus, of course, everyone at Mass gets to take a blessed palm home and Catholics just love getting something at Church even if it is just ashes on Ash Wednesday!
