Pearls contain two minerals, aragonite and calcite. Also, there is a chemical compound called conchiolin.

It is a commercial gemstone, but certainly is not a commercial source of the minerals aragonite and calcite. The mullosk creates pearls to seal off irritants.

Oil is not a mineral because in order to be a mineral it must have three things,1) must have a definite crystalline structur, 2) must not be organic in nature and 3) it must be a naturally occurring substance, oil is only naturally occurring but does have a crystalline structure at all, and is made out of organic plant material that decomposed many years ago.

In addition, a mineral is defined as a solid. Oil is a liquid.
