It was the primary trade route between Europe and Asia. When the Roman Empire fell the road became more dangerous and less and less people began to use it until it wasn't in use at all. During the Middle Ages the Silk Road was not in use and for a 1000 years the trade route between Asia and Europe didn't exist. With the 1400's and the start of exploration trade between Asia and Europe became possible again.

The silk route is important to the ancient Chinese because the silk was found in china by a princess who was walking in her garden. She saw silk worms producing silk on a tree. She observed it everyday and saw the silk moth coming out of the silk ball that the worm made. She ordered her soldiers to find 50 silk worms and keep in front of her. Then she ordered her cloth makers to make a cloth from the silk produced by the silk worms. Then the king too saw the cloth made for her daughter from silk s he ordered his all men and cloth makers to make a road out of silk to mark the greatness of himself. That's how the silk road was made and it became very important for the ancient Chinese.
