Atoms are very tiny. Expressing their masses in grams would require unusual prefixes like "-yocto" or cumbersome scientific notation. One AMU is equal to 1.66*10-24g. It's easier to compare the masses of atoms by using a special unit.

Because a gram is too large a unit to express the mass of an atom. Also the Atomic Mass relates to what atoms or made of.

If you convert the atomic mass into grams you have a mole of the element.

What is the atomic mass of an element expressed in grams?

Gram Atomic Mass

Is the atomic mass different than atomic weight?

Not to a chemist, when they are both expressed in grams! For a physicist, "mass" is the preferred term because it is an inherent property of the material, whereas the weight will vary if an atom is in a different gravitational field than that of the Earth. In physics, "weight" is not expressed in simple "grams" but rather in "grams force".

If the atomic weight of carbon is twelve and the atomic weight of oxygen is sixteen the molecular weight of glucose expressed in grams is?

The question lacks sufficent information regarding quantity, and atomic weight is not expressed in grams. Are you asking how many grams per mole?

Which is not a reason why the mass of an atom is expressed in atomic mass units rather than in grams?

Originally these relative masses were based on hydrogen, known to be the lightest element, having a mass of 1 u, and all the MORE

What is the relationship between the atomic mass of an element and a mole of that elements atoms?

The mole is the atomic weight expressed in grams.

How can you fine the mass of mole of atoms of atoms of an element in grams?

Simple: the atomic weight expressed in grams. Example for dysprosium - 162,500 grams.

In what units is molar mass typically expressed?

the atomic mass unit

How is the mass in grams of an element converted to amount in moles?

1 mol of any element is the atomic weight expressed in grams.

What information does the molar mass gives?

It is the sum of the atomic weights of atoms contained in the molecule, expressed in grams.

What is meant by expressing atomic weight in grams?

It means that atomic weight is expressed in form of Molar weight. When we write that the atomic mass of an element is X, it means that it is X amu(atomic mass unit) and not X grams. An atomic mass unit is very less as compared to a gram. The molar mass of an element or compound is its same mass as in amu but in grams.

What is the difference in molar mass and atomic mass?

molar mass is the actual mass of the one atom but relative mass is the average isotopes of the atoms.------------------------------------------Atomic mass is the mass of an isotope, expressed in atomic mass units.Molar mass is the mass of molecule, calculated from the atomic weights of the contained chemical atoms, expressed in grams.
