You are not only paying for the implant, but the expertise and education of the person placing it. Learning to place an implant properly is a time consuming, expensive endeavor. Also keep in mind that very few dental ins companies cover the cost. The tooth needs to be removed - ins usually covers that, either medical or dental. Then there is the wait to have the area heal - a healing cap is placed over the implant. Several weeks later, you will see your general dentist or a PROSTHOdontist to place a crown. Keep in mind most crowns last 5-10 years. There is nothing permanent when it comes to dentistry! Implants are well worth the cost! I had a tooth removed in Nov 04, with a sinus lift and placement of the implant in Feb 05. The crown was placed May 05. Dependent on where you have the implants placed, I would recommend consulting with a PERIOdontist rather than an oral surgeon or PROSTHOdontist. All of these specialists can provide excellent treatment, however, a PERIOdontist deals strictly with the bone and tissues surrounding the teeth (PERIO means around). A PROSTHOdontist is concerned more about esthetics. Ask about the costs of having a second opinion - some dentists waive the charge or deduct it from the treatment costs. Call your local Board of Dental Examiners - they are responsible for maintaining licensure and CE for all dentists in the state. They may be able to give you information about the dentist (s) you are going to be working with.

When you get a dental procedure, in addition to the procedure, you are paying for the dentist's overhead as well. This includes the equipment in the room, the salaries and benefits of the staff that assists the doctor, the light bill, the office rent or mortgage, the doctor's malpractice insurance, the materials and supplies used in the procedure, possibly a lab bill, the doctor's licensing fees, continuing education costs, etc.

You also get to pay the costs incurred when other patients fail to keep their appointments or don't pay their dental bills.

If the dentist is relatively young, you are also helping him/her pay off their dental school loans, which typically run into six figures.

The typical dental office in the U.S. has overhead of about 75%, so figure if you have a procedure that costs you $1000, the dentist is probably only making about $250 for himself.

Because you're not just paying for the procedure but also with person who spend years and money mastering this profession. Dental implants can be extremely expensive when performed in the United States, the average cost of dental implants ranging from $1,000-$5,000 per tooth. Extensive reconstructive dental implants can cost anywhere from $20,000-$100,000!

The same procedures performed across borders, especially in Mexico, South America and in European countries such as Hungary, cost substantially less, with savings of up to 75%

Do dentist make more money than orthodontist?

No. Dentist do a ton of different things and orthodontists do one specific thing which is straightening teeth. That's one reason why people confuse of which gets paid more. You have to take 2-3 years to specialize as an ortho so it would just be common that they'd make more money. Some dentists DO make more money then them, though. Just get a lot of experiance and know what your doing. Orthodontists can make anywhere from 500,000 annually to 1,000,000 annually. Dentists make around 142,226 annually. But remember that the more experiance you get, the more money you get. Both jobs will increase with experiance so don't start to believe that dentists have a low salary. Though dentists salary are pretty low COMPARED TO ORTHOS, dentists DO make a lot of money. You'll be in a comfortable state of mind without worry that your money will shorten. (: hope it helped.
