Division of labor is the division of tasks, roles and duties between people trying to accomplish a certain task. Division of labor became an important element of society during the Industrial Revolution, when factory work changed the way in which people worked together to create products. This method of labor was supported by famous economists like Adam Smith and mechanical engineers such as Charles Babbage.
It increases production b/c a worker can become very skilled and proficient in one specific task rather than semi skilled in multiple task.. for say you have a production process with five parts you could hire 5 workers who each complete one part of the process over and over and over again... they would become quiet proficient at their job
It is important because if there is only one person working it lead to law of diminishing returns, depending on the labor, but continuing to apply effort or skill to a project will decline in effectiveness after a certain level of result has been achieved. If several people are working then there is the division of labor, each person gets a certain task that completes the project in a more effective way.
Specialization is when a particular process b is divided in to large number of smaller tasks performed repetitively by individuals assigned complete a limited number of those tasks, rather than having each person complete the entire process. The breakdown of jobs into narrow and repetitive tasks is also called "division of labor."
There are four factors of production: Land, Labor, Capital and Organization. In any business entity production process is completes through employing these factors of production. Land gets the rent, labor gets wages, capital the interest and organization gets the proft earned by any business entity.
