According to certain earth science satellites dating to the late fifties the planet has a slightly pear-shaped orb. It might be observed that there have been myths and religious beliefs such as those of the Brahmans which hypothesized a sort of doughnut or egg-shaped cosmic soul-Looking somethiing like the oval cloud advertising logos of some airlines like Twa, and this ws flattened slightly to give more of an oval, not relaly spherical shape. Maybe the myths were not so far off!

The Earth is not perfectly round for at least three reasons. The first reason is that the Earth is somewhat flexible so it bulges outwards at the equator because of its rotation. The second reason is that the land masses are not distributed evenly and their weight presses down on the Earth, "dimpling" it slightly. The third reason is because geologic processes keep thrusting up mountains and erosion keeps digging out valleys so the Earth cannot be perfectly smooth.

No, although the planets may seem spherical, they are actually flattened somewhat at the poles. The planetary spin on its axis pushes the equatorial part outward. Saturn, for example, has a radius of 54,300 km toward the poles but 60,200 km toward the equator. Earth is much closer to spherical with only a 22 km difference between the polar radius vs. the equatorial radius.

Approximately, yes the Earth is round. This is due to gravity. Gravity pulls with equal strength in all directions; therefore any variations from a spherical shape will lead to gravitational forces that bring the shape back into that of a sphere.

This is without considering the rotation of the earth, however. The rotation of the earth adds centrifugal effects, which cause the earth to bulge slightly at its equator and flatten slightly at its poles. (This is like twirling a rock on the end of a string and then letting go--the rock flies away from the twirler.) Because of these centrifugal effects, the distance from the center of the earth to the surface of the earth is about 0.33% shorter at the poles compared to the equator.
Because all the material is pulled towards the centre of gravity and if it was not round there would be slopes for material to roll down. After 4 billion years all the rolling that could be done has been done.

No, the earth bulges at the equator. It is an oblate spheroid.

As it applies to shape, the word "round" applies to two dimensional figures only; a circle. A three dimensional object, such as the earth, is a sphere (or nearly so).

Almost but not quite. The polar regions are somewhat flattened so the earth is not a perfect sphere.

The earth isn't exactly round but it is roughly round. It isn't a perfect ball we all live in. It is slightly like an oval. Earth isn't round or flat or cubed, earth is the shape of earth.

How are the globe and earth alike and different?

the earth and the globe are both spherical[round shape]

Where do you find that the earth is spherical in the Bible?

The earth is round (spherical/a globe) and hanging upon nothing (Isaiah 40:22/Job 26:7)

Is Earth a spherical planet?

Yes earth is a spherical (round), thousands of years ago people did not know that planet earth was round, they just thought it was flat so if they went to far they would fall of the edge! but nowadays because of spacetravel etc, we have seen planet earth and they have noticed it was a spherical planet. So yes it is.

Who was the first person to prove that earth is round and spherical?

Which eclipse solar or lunar gives the evidence that the earth is round?

Lunar, because the Earth's shadow on the moon is always round, so the Earth must be spherical (round as seen from any angle)

What was Aristotles basis for believing that the earth was spherical?

First he realised that eclipses of the moon were caused by the earth coming between the sun & the moon. The earth's shadow on the moon was always round, which would be true only if the earth was spherical.

Where do you find that the earth is spherical?

The Earth isn't actually perfectly spherical. It is slightly flattened at the poles. To find evidence of Earth's round shape, pictures taken from space are good secondary data to provide evidence.

If the earth is round why does it seem?

Even though the earth is round, or more specifically, spherical, it seems flat to the human eye. This is because the earth is so huge that when we look at it we can't take in all of the horizon because we are so close. If we were viewing the earth from the moon, we would clearly be able to see it is spherical.
