5And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. The Lion of the tribe of Judah is Jesus Christ, as is clear from the context.

The lion of judah refers to Jesus when he comes back for the judgement portion, but those who are saved will escape judgement.

ANOTHER ANSWER:

It's interesting to note how few people of the hundreds of denominations of the so-called "Christian community" know so little about the real "gospel," the message, the Good News that Jesus preached. They truly don't know who He really is: that HE IS A KING!

It's interesting to further note that men call a "LION" the "KING of BEASTS."

It's interesting to note in Daniel's dream of the "Four BEASTS," that the four BEASTS are interpreted to picture the four primary world-ruling "GOVERNMENT SYSTEMS" throughout history: Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome.

And it tickles the imagination to note that the first "BEAST" of Daniel's dream [Babylon] is a "LION!"

Although some of the folks of the "Christian community" occasionally read a passage from The Bible from time to time [but more often than not, have one read TO them from the pulpit by their minister]... it seems that very few of them know... or believe... that Jesus Christ is coming back to earth as the All-Powerful, Almighty, Sovereign KING over the ENTIRETY OF PLANET EARTH!

The LION OF JUDAH is JESUS CHRIST... the soon-returning KING [the leader of God's Government who will sit on the throne of David]; who is going to ESTABLISH GOD'S GOVERNMENT... and PEACE ON EARTH.

It's THE message of the Bible that very few people seem to know... or if they have read it, don't BELIEVE IT. Here is the message -- believe it or not:

"...and THE GOVERNMENT SHALL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER... Of the increase OF HIS GOVERNMENT and PEACE THERE SHALL BE NO END, UPON THE THRONE OF DAVID, and UPON HIS KINGDOM [a KINGDOM is a GOVERNMENT SYSTEM], to order it, and to ESTABLISH IT with JUDGMENT and with JUSTICE from henceforth even FOR EVER. The zeal of the LORD of hosts WILL PERFORM THIS." (Isa.9:6-7)

This isn't a statement about "religion"... this is a wonderful message from God regarding this world's future world ruler: the KING over and above all kings, and LORD over and above all lords. God calls it "gospel!" GOOD NEWS!

The most important news this world CAN and WILL EVER hear is that all the Satan-led and -designed governments of man are NO MORE! Because that's the message of Jesus Christ and the Bible.

Jesus Christ is the LION OF JUDAH. He's the KING OF BEASTS... the King over government rulership of the earth. He is the coming Ruler of the GOVERNMENT OF GOD ON THE EARTH. And it doesn't matter whether anyone believes it or not.

"And the LORD shall BE KING OVER ALL THE EARTH: in THAT DAY shall there be ONE LORD, and His Name One." (Zech.14:9)

Holy Bible - New International Version (NIV)Revelation 5:5

Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals."

Genesis 49:9

You are a lion's cub, O Judah; you return from the prey, my son.

Hebrews 7:14-17

For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

Because God kept his promise when he told Abraham that he would make his children a mighty nation.

The Lion became the symbol for the nation of Great Britain. Just as the Eagle became the symbol for the United States. Each symbol that you see is a mighty nation today. Because God kept his promise.

The lion was symbolic of the tribe of Judah, and Jesus was the 'Lion of the Tribe of Judah'. Lions symbolize righteousness. justice, and majesty, particularly in relation to God.

The negative traits of the beast are used as a simile for Satan's behaviour and he is said to prowl like a lion waiting to devour us.

The royal line of God's people stemmed from Judah. Starting with David, all the kings who ruled in Jerusalem until the Babylonians destroyed that city were Judah's descendants. But not one of them was the Shiloh prophesied by Jacob. Shiloh means "He Whose [Right] It Is." Prophetically, this name pointed to Jesus, the one to whom the Davidic Kingdom now permanently belongs.-Ezekiel 21:25-27; Luke 1:32, 33; Revelation 19:16.

The Bible says of God's Son: "Look! The Lion that is of the tribe of Judah."-Revelation 5:5

The lion is often linked to courage. Have you ever stood face -to-face with an adult male lion? If you have, most likely you were safely separated from the beast, perhaps by the fence of his enclosure at a zoo. Still, such an experience can be daunting. As you look into the face of this huge and powerful creature and he gazes steadily back at you, you can hardly imagine the lion ever fleeing in fear from anything. The Bible speaks of "the lion, which is the mightiest among the beast and which does not turn back from before anyone." (Proverbs 30:30) Such is the courage of Christ.
