Make sure you are installing a good bulb. They can be bad right out of the box. Look for corrosion in the rear connector that is not working. Check all the wiring at the rear receptacle. See if there is actually 12V at that rear socket by checking with a voltmeter. .

It's going to get expensive really, really fast. The transmission will need to be looked at, the oil changed out, the tires checked, the lights checked, radiator checked, air filter looked at and replaced if needed, gas lines looked at and checked to make sure there are no leaks, make sure the engine is in good condition. Take alot of snacks with you if you are going cross country. It might be a long ride. I don't mean to discourage you, but this can get really expensive, really fast.
